The Concerned Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG) has taken note of the recent press conference by the Social Transparency and Youth Leadership Advancement Initiative (STYLAI), wherein it called for the suspension of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa.
While we recognize and uphold the critical role of civil society organisations in promoting transparency and accountability within public institutions, we are constrained to state that the call by STYLAI is premature, speculative, and not reflective of the current realities within HYPPADEC.
Under the leadership of Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, HYPPADEC has witnessed unprecedented progress marked by prudence, transparency, and effective service delivery.
For the first time in the Commission’s history, development interventions have been equitably distributed across beneficiary states, with tangible projects and programmes reaching communities that had long been neglected.
These achievements span critical sectors including infrastructure development, environmental management, and livelihood support initiatives, all of which have significantly improved the socio-economic conditions of affected communities.
The impact of these interventions is visible, verifiable, and widely acknowledged by stakeholders and beneficiaries alike.
It is therefore concerning that such a record of performance is being overshadowed by allegations that have neither been substantiated through due process nor validated by any competent authority. We strongly caution against the use of unverified claims to push narratives that may undermine institutional stability and ongoing developmental efforts.
CNYGG firmly believes that allegations of misconduct, wherever they arise, should be addressed through established legal and administrative procedures, rather than through media trials capable of eroding public confidence in governance structures.
We further urge civil society actors to ensure that their engagements remain objective, constructive, and driven by credible evidence in the overall interest of national development.
In light of the foregoing, we call on STYLAI and similar groups to desist from actions capable of distracting the leadership of HYPPADEC from its mandate and instead channel their energies towards supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development and national progress.
At this critical point in our nation’s journey, all stakeholders must work collaboratively to strengthen institutions, consolidate ongoing reforms, and contribute meaningfully to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
CNYGG remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for good governance, accountability, and the protection of institutions that are demonstrably delivering on their mandates.
Amb. Mahmud Abubakar,
Convener,
Concerned Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG)
