BREAKING: Tinubu Orders Fresh Verification Of Civil Servants Recruited Between 2013 And 2020

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has ordered a fresh verification exercise for thousands of civil servants recruited between 2013 and 2020 over allegations of job racketeering and the sale of employment slots.

In a circular dated August 4, 2025, Ndiomu Ebiogeh Philip, permanent secretary of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), said the exercise is targeted at officers who failed to participate in the 2021 verification.

The circular warned that any officer who fails to appear will be deemed to possess a fake appointment letter and removed from the service.

The FCSC said β€œno further extension will be granted” and accused some officers of β€œdeliberately staying away to avoid detection.”

The development follows a petition by Martins Oghenerhoro Richard Atijegbe, a staff member in the Ministry of Works, who alleged that top officials sold federal jobs for as much as N2.5 million.

Martins claimed the directors issued fake employment letters to unqualified individuals and enrolled them into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) within weeks.

β€œI discovered it and made it public, and I am being persecuted for doing so. I am on the verge of losing my job,” he said.

The petition, filed through his lawyer, accused the ministry of fraud, abuse of power, conspiracy, and cover-up.

The Ministry of Works has denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as β€œincredibly fictitious.”

According to Martins, the new verification is aimed at uncovering fake letters in the system.

The FCSC has directed affected officers to check their names on its website, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s website, or ministry notice boards.
