The Lagos State Police Command is mourning the loss of one of its most admired officers, CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, who passed away yesterday during an operation at a hospital in Surulere, Lagos.
Until her death, Ngbaronye was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, where she was known for her professionalism, compassion, and firm commitment to justice.
Fondly remembered for her warmth and exceptional human and media relations, the late officer had previously served as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPRO) in Lagos, where she earned widespread respect for her poise, eloquence, and deep understanding of the public’s right to information.
Colleagues and admirers have flooded social media with tributes, describing her as “a shining example of a modern police officer” who believed in balancing law enforcement with empathy and respect for human rights.
“She was a humane officer who treated everyone with dignity. Her passing is a huge loss to the Force and the society she served so diligently,” a mourner told NewsmakersNG.
Just recently, Ngbaronye was seen looking radiant at a pull-out parade in Ikeja, celebrating the retirement of a senior officer, a moment that now serves as a bittersweet memory for many who knew her.
Her death has plunged the Lagos Police Command into deep sorrow, with many officers describing her as “a rare gem who combined intelligence, grace, and humility in service.”
As tributes continue to pour in, one thing remains clear – CSP Matilda Ngbaronye’s legacy of service, courage, and compassion will not be forgotten.
