Supporters of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have launched a new grassroots mobilisation platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, tagged Village Boys Movement, was unveiled in Abuja on Thursday as part of efforts to galvanise support at the community level.
The initiative is seen as a counter-platform to the City Boys Movement, associated with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which was created to rally support for the President’s re-election bid.
Addressing supporters at the launch, the convener of the Village Boys Movement, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, described himself as the “Village Headmaster” of the movement.
According to him, the platform represents “a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends.”
He clarified that the movement was not designed to promote hostility between rural and urban communities.
“The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability,” Ezeoke said, adding that the initiative was intended as a “moral contrast” rather than a regional or social divide.
The launch signals the beginning of intensified political mobilisation among opposition supporters as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
