Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a takeover of the party by βantidemocratic forces.β
Momodu announced his departure in a letter dated July 17 and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The media mogul and close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar did not mince words in expressing his frustration with the current state of the party.
βI wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect,β Momodu wrote.
βMy reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.β
Describing the PDP as a βcarcass,β Momodu added, βIt is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).β
Momoduβs exit comes after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar resigned from the PDP in a letter dated July 14, similarly citing irreconcilable differences and deviation from the partyβs founding ideals.
