GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that two members of the Kano state house of assembly– Aminu Ungogo and Sarki Aliyu Daneji– have died.
Ungogo, who represented the Ungogo constituency and chaired the house committee on appropriation, died on Wednesday after collapsing at the assembly complex following a brief illness.
He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Barely an hour later, the death of Daneji, the member representing the Kano municipal constituency, was also announced.
Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, described the losses as irreparable and prayed for the repose of their souls and strength for their families.
“I mourn the passing of two members of the Kano State House of Assembly who died today,” Jibrin wrote on X.
“The deceased lawmakers are Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, who represented Ungogo Constituency, and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Constituency. My heartfelt condolences go to their families, their constituents and the Kano state government.”
Jibril Falgore, speaker of the assembly, in a statement by Kamaluddeen Shawai, his chief press secretary (CPS), condoled with the families and constituents of Ungogo, describing his death as a huge loss at a critical time for the state.
“The late Hon. Ungogo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement reads.
“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most.”
