The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board on Tuesday announced cut-off points for admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education for the 2024 academic year.
The decision was reached during the board’s annual policy meeting on admissions, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
In a statement on its official X page, JAMB said 150 has been set as the cut-off point for university admission, 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education and 140 for colleges of nursing.
“The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences,” the statement read.
It added that the cut-off points were decided by the “stakeholders (Heads of tertiary institutions).”
Under the new guideline, no university in the country is allowed to admit candidates who scored below 150 in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Despite this general benchmark, some universities, such as the University of Lagos, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Ibadan, have opted to raise their own cut-off marks to 200.
A few recently established private universities proposed accepting candidates with scores as low as 120, though JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, advised setting a more competitive minimum of 160.
Further updates on the policy decisions are expected soon.
