The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ukalikpe Napoleon, the winner of the Ahoada East State Constituency II bye-election held on Saturday.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Rosemary Ogbo, announced the results and certified that the poll was duly conducted and contested.
She said Ukalipe polled 3,980 votes to defeat Ego Marvelous of the Action Alliance (AA), who scored 33 votes.
Others are Godstime Egor of Action Party of Nigeria (APN) 38 votes; Oseja Clifford of Boot Party (BP), 11 votes; Ephraim Raphael Ede of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), seven votes; Ogide Samson Greatman of Young Progressives Party (YPP) seven votes; and Kwodu Saturday Prosper of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) six votes.
Prof. Ogbo averred that Ukalipe having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes was duly returned elected.
She said, “I, Prof Rosemary Ogbo, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2026 Ahoada East state constituency bye election, held on the 21st day of February 2026.
“The election was contested, the candidates received the following votes; Ego Marvelous of AA political party 33 votes, Ukalikpe Napoleon of the APC received 3,980 votes, Godstime Egor of APN received 38 votes, Oseja Clifford of BP received 11, Ephraim Raphael Ede of NNPP received 7 votes, Ogide Samson Greatman of YPP 7, and finally Kwodu Saturday Prosper of ZLP received 6 votes
“Ukalikpe Napoleon of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
Ukalikpe had earlier commended voters for turning out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.
He shortly after casting his vote at Ogbelle Town, Unit 1, Ward 9, in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and the overall conduct of the poll, describing the voting process as smooth and orderly.
He further praised the security arrangements across the constituency, stating that the atmosphere remained calm and peaceful.
He said: “I am very happy with the turnout, there is security everywhere, there has so far been no disturbances.
“This is unit 1, ward 9. Look at the number of people here, then talk of other units, I have visited some other units and I am impressed with what is going on.”
Ukalikpe called on Nigerians to commend President Bola Tinubu and INEC for the conduct of the exercise, adding that he experienced no challenges during accreditation and voting.
The candidate said he was successfully verified on the system, where he found his name without difficulty, and cast his ballot without incident, insisting that the process was peaceful and orderly.
He said: “I think Nigerians should be happy with what president Bola Tinubu and INEC are doing today, because I just finished voting and there is no single problem during the voting.
“I passed through all the hurdles and I saw my name in all the systems and I voted, we are here by the grace of God, we are going to celebrate because with what I’m seeing on ground, victory is ours.
“I am happy with the process, I am overwhelmed seeing what is going on here, I gave the officials my voter’s card, they processed it and I voted seamlessly, everything went peacefully.”
The election was generally peaceful, but it witnessed voter apathy in some areas and reasonable turnout of voters in other polling units especially where the candidates cast their ballots.
There was no report of violence as security agencies especially the police thoroughly monitored the election.
The election in Khana Constituency II where results were being expected was also generally peaceful with the APC candidate, Loolo Bulabari reportedly cruising to victory.
