BREAKING: Former FCT Minister Dies At 82 (Photo)

Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has passed away at the age of 82. The retired army officer died on Thursday following a prolonged illness.

The news of his death was announced on Thursday night by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, through a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Governor Mutfwang expressed deep sorrow over Useni’s passing, describing it as a significant loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.

He emphasized Useni’s exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to service, particularly in promoting peace and security in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

The statement highlighted, “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, deeply regrets to announce to the citizens of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians the passing of the former minister.”

Governor Mutfwang reflected on Useni’s illustrious career, noting his distinguished service in various roles, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

After retiring from the military, General Useni transitioned into politics, continuing his commitment to public service. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Governor praised General Useni’s life of selfless service, acknowledging his significant contributions to the military, politics, and the community. He emphasized that Useni’s legacy of compassion, kindness, generosity, and dedication to the welfare of others would be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman,” Governor Mutfwang stated.

The statement concluded with prayers for God to grant strength and fortitude to the family, Plateau State, and the nation in bearing this irreplaceable loss, while also asking for divine comfort and solace in the days to come.
