The powerful legacy of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti has once again taken centre stage on the global music scene as the late icon was posthumously inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
His children, speaking on behalf of the family, accepted the honour, stating: “Our father’s legacy lives on. We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
“His music continues to inspire and unite people across the world.”
The Grammy Hall of Fame Award, established to recognise recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance, acknowledged Fela’s revolutionary contributions to music, culture, and activism.
Known for his fearless lyrics, pulsating rhythms, and unapologetic stance against political oppression, Fela’s music transcended entertainment, it became a voice for the people.
This recognition by the Recording Academy not only honours Fela’s artistic genius but also cements his place as one of the world’s most impactful cultural figures.
His blend of traditional African rhythms, jazz, and funk, infused with a fierce sense of justice, set a standard few have matched.
As his children carry the torch, continuing to promote and preserve his work, the world is once again reminded that Fela was more than a musician, he was a movement.
