The Nigerian Medical Association has suspended its proposed industrial action, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports.
According to NTA News, NMA revealed that the association is now in negotiation with the federal government.
In a suspected proactive measure, FG on Monday through National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC) suspended the move to review medical officers and dental officer’s allowances.
Confirming the development on Monday, the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Tope Osundara, said the circular had been suspended to enable further dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
Recall that NMA has earlier threatened to shut down medical services across Nigeria today if the federal government fails to meet its demands before the expiration of its 21-day ultimatum.
The association, which represents doctors nationwide, issued the warning over unresolved issues surrounding remuneration and welfare.
NMA President, Prof. Bala Audu, stated that the association would be left with no option but to withdraw services if its demands are not met by July 23.
He specifically condemned a recent circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, describing it as a violation of previously agreed terms concerning allowances for medical and dental officers.
