The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Kabir Abdu, who passed away after a prolonged illness.
A statement issued by the Command on Sunday disclosed that the senior officer died while receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, where he had been admitted since December 12, 2025.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmed Musa, in the statement signed and made available to journalists by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, described the late DCP as a highly dedicated, disciplined and selfless officer whose professionalism and commitment to duty greatly contributed to security and stability in Sokoto State.
“DCP Kabir Abdu was an outstanding officer whose service left a lasting impact on policing and public safety in the state,” Musa said.
On behalf of officers and men of the Command, the Commissioner extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) grant the departed soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and grant fortitude to the bereaved family.
The statement added that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to honour the invaluable contributions of the late Abdu to peace, security and effective policing.
PUNCH Online reports that Abdu was a senior officer of the Nigeria Police Force with decades of service across various commands and operational units.
Before his death, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Sokoto State, a role that placed him at the centre of coordinating security strategies, crime prevention, and operational responses in one of the country’s most security-sensitive regions.
His tenure coincided with sustained efforts by the Sokoto State Police Command to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes affecting parts of the North-West. Colleagues described him as a firm but professional officer known for discipline, operational diligence, and close collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
His death comes at a time when the Nigeria Police Force continues to grapple with personnel losses due to illness, operational hazards, and the broader pressures associated with internal security challenges nationwide.
