GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that a magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted a N500,000 bail to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, following an alleged assault on Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver.
Ikwechegh was arraigned on Wednesday on a three-count charge bordering on assault and threat to life, filed by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
The federal lawmaker pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The incident, which occurred on October 27, has sparked widespread criticism, fueled by a viral video showing Ikwechegh in a physical altercation with Abuwatseya.
The Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit is leading the investigation into the case, following public demand for accountability from the lawmaker.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the arraignment is a closely watched event, with Nigerians hoping for justice and a demonstration of accountability by public officials.
The court’s ruling is anticipated as a potential landmark for cases involving misconduct by elected representatives.
