Bobrisky: Nobody Will Be Shielded – FG Vows

The Federal Government has promised to sanction any officer found guilty in the alleged bribery saga involving a crossdresser Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky.

In a viral video, the crossdresser who was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse was said to have served his term outside of a correctional facility after paying some officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

But speaking during a media in Abuja to mark his one year in office, the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said no officer of the NCoS found wanting in the allegations will be spared.

“Please, let us be patient for investigations to be done and be rest assured that nobody will be shielded and nobody will be protected,” Tunji-Ojo said on Friday about the saga involving the agency under his ministry.

There are claims in some quarters that the saga is targeted at the crossdresser but the minister has refuted such.

“It is not just about Bobrisky,” he said during the briefing.

A blogger Martins Otse known as VeryDarkMan had alleged that some officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) collected ₦15 million from Bobrisky for the anti-graft agency to drop money laundering charges against him during his naira spraying ordeal.

VeryDarkMan also claimed that Bobrisky paid millions of naira to get the said apartment where he served the jail term.

In the wake of the development, the Federal Government suspended some senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service. The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board said the move was to allow for a thorough investigation.

A statement by the board said the officers are “Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), in charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.”

It promised to make the outcome of the investigation public.
