Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro Bibire has praised Governor Seyi Makinde for the peaceful way he has managed the growing concerns around the Ibadan Circular Road project.
He gave this commendation while reacting to the controversy that has generated concerns among residents and attracted several protests across different communities affected by the project.
According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde should be truly applauded for the patient and responsible manner in which he has engaged the public and addressed their fears without allowing the situation to escalate.
He said that “what we are witnessing today is a clear departure from the old pattern where some past administrations would ignore public outcry and show little concern for the affected.”
He added that even though the Governor is not the initiator of the entire idea, and did not acquire a single inch of the land under his own administration, he still accepted the burden of sorting out the challenges because he knows that governance is a continuum and that every leader inherits both the assets and the liabilities of their predecessors.
While explaining that compensation is already being given to authentic land owners whose properties fall within the legally approved corridor, the retired US Navy veteran urged residents to remain patient while the government completes the verification and compensation process.
This was as he appealed to the people not to allow unscrupulous elements who do not genuinely care about their welfare or the progress of the state to hijack their grievances and twist them into a campaign of falsehood against the impressive achievements of the Governor in the past six years.
The renowned philanthropist noted that the Governor has shown true leadership that pays attention to the feelings of the people by choosing consultation rather than coercion, and for setting a good precedent that public office holders can embrace empathy while still pursuing development.
He confessed that the calm approach of the Governor has restored confidence in the process and has given the people hope that their concerns will be addressed with utmost fairness.
Bibire, who affirmed very strongly that Oyo State is fortunate to have a leader who listens, acts responsibly, and leads with compassion, urged residents to remain calm and to continue to engage the government peacefully as Governor Seyi Makinde works toward a fair and lasting resolution that protects both development goals and community interests.
The leading House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency under the platform of the PDP, expressed hope that the remaining issues enveloping the project will, in no time, be resolved in a peaceful and orderly manner that protects the holistic interests of the people and the progress of Oyo State.
