Bandits operating in North Western part of Nigeria have imposed a N20 million levy on farmers in Gatakawa, Katsina State.

The development was disclosed on Wednesday in a post on X by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist covering insecurity in Nigeriaโ€™s northwest.

Bakatsine said the bandits demanded the levy from farmers before allowing them to harvest their crops.

He criticized the alleged peace deal between the bandits and communities in the crisis-ridden in the region, saying it has only brought deeper fear to farmers.

In a post on X, Bakatsine wrote: โ€œBREAKING: Bandits have reportedly imposed a N20 million levy on Gatakawa farmers before allowing them to harvest their crops, a chilling sign of deepening insecurity in North West region. Gatakawa is a community in Kankara LGA of Katsina State.
