AREWA YOUTH CONGRESS (AYC) ENDORSES CAC & MINISTRY ACTIONS, DEMANDS FAIR NYCN PRESIDENCY WITHIN ROTATIONAL NORTHERN TURN
Abuja, 10th October 2025
The Arewa Youth Congress (AYC), being the largest and most coordinated youth organization in Northern Nigeria, wholeheartedly commends the recent decisive actions taken by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Ayodele Olawande, and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the able stewardship of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, in addressing the lingering leadership crisis within the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The withdrawal of NYCN’s registration certificate, nullification of all disputed leadership claims, and subsequent constitution of an Interim Management Committee (IMC), as announced by the CAC, are courageous and necessary steps in restoring sanity, legality, and accountability to the apex youth body.
These actions are consistent with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and reaffirm the commitment of the Ministry and the CAC to strengthening youth governance structures across Nigeria.
The Arewa Youth Congress (AYC) firmly maintains that, in the spirit of fairness, equity, and the long-standing rotational understanding within NYCN, the Presidency of the Council should now rightfully go to the North.
The North has a pool of credible, visionary, and capable young leaders who can restore NYCN to its original mission and vision — as a non-partisan, development-driven umbrella for Nigerian youths that promotes unity, inclusion, and service.
AYC condemns in its totality any form of kangaroo arrangement — whether already done or being planned — to illegally elongate the tenure of the current NYCN leadership. Such actions are unconstitutional, divisive, and detrimental to the credibility of the youth constituency in Nigeria.
We hereby warn the current leadership of NYCN and any collaborators within or outside the system to desist from all undemocratic moves aimed at circumventing due process. The youth community will resist any attempt to undermine the transparent rebuilding process being led by the CAC and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) must ensure a transparent, inclusive, and law-abiding transition process leading to the emergence of new NYCN leadership.
All youth groups, regional councils, and civil society partners to remain vigilant and supportive of efforts to reposition NYCN on the path of integrity, justice, and progress.
The time has come for NYCN to rediscover its soul — and the Arewa region stands ready with tested, trusted, and patriotic youths to lead that renewal process.
The Arewa Youth Congress (AYC) reiterates its unflinching support for the actions taken by Hon. Ayodele Olawande, Honourable Minister of Youth Development, and Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Their interventions have given new hope to millions of young Nigerians yearning for accountability, fairness, and functional youth representation.
AYC reaffirms that the Presidency of NYCN must return to the North in the interest of national balance and the restoration of the Council’s founding ideals.
Signed:
Amb. Hassan Sadau
Speaker, Arewa Youth Congress (AYC)
