Arokodare Suffers R@cist Abuse After Penalty Miss At Crystal Palace

Tolu Arokodare has been subjected to racial abuse on social media following his penalty loss in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defeat to Crystal Palace in the English Premier League (EPL).

On Sunday, Arokodare was brought down in the 43rd minute of the league match against Crystal Palace, but saw his effort from the resulting penalty comfortably saved by Dean Henderson, Palace’s goalkeeper.

Wolves conceded a late goal scored by Evann Guessand to succumb to defeat. The loss was Wolves’ 20th in the EPL, leaving them with just 10 points in 28 matches.

After the match, Arokodare was singled out for racist abuse from fans who thronged his social media page to send racist messages.

Reacting to the situation, Wolves issued a statement condemning the discriminatory comments aimed at the Super Eagles striker.

The club declared “full and unwavering support” for Arokodare, adding that “no player should be subjected to such hatred simply for doing their job”.

“Wolves are disgusted by numerous instances of racist abuse, from multiple perpetrators, directed at Tolu Arokodare on social media following today’s fixture against Crystal Palace,” the statement reads.

“There is no place for racism – in football, online, or anywhere in society. We condemn this abhorrent and unlawful behaviour in the strongest possible terms.

“Tolu has our full and unwavering support. No player should be subjected to such hatred simply for doing their job.

“We stand firmly alongside him, and alongside all footballers who are forced to endure this abuse from anonymous accounts acting with apparent impunity.”

Arokodare, who has only two league goals since joining Wolves in the summer, is the third EPL player to suffer racial abuse on social media in the past 24 hours.

Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri were both targeted with similar discriminatory messages after their two club drew on Saturday.
