GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Chelsea FC have announced their first-ever visit to Lagos in May.
In a statement on Thursday, the English Premier League (EPL) club said Victor Moses, the former Super Eagles and Chelsea winger, will also be in the country for the event.
The club added that the visit to Lagos will be for a “fan engagement programme”.
“The Famous CFC in Lagos will bring a packed weekend of action to the city, where fans will be welcomed to the ever-popular watch party along with exclusive activities including a Q&A with Moses. There will also be the chance to win signed merchandise,” the statement reads.
“The visit to Nigeria is the fifth stop this season for the international fan programme, which looks to deepen connections with Blues supporters around the world. Extended this season with more host cities to ensure even more fans can come together at exclusive events, the party in Lagos will bring the Chelsea family together as the season comes to a climax.”
Moses played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria before retiring from international football in 2018. He won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the team and played in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
EPL teams and legends have visited Nigeria several times.
In 2008, Manchester United and Portsmouth FC played a friendly match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
In 2017, Thierry Henry, Arsenal FC’s legend, visited Lagos and was crowned the “Igwe of football”.
A year later, Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United defender, was also in Lagos for an event.
The EPL trophy has also been in the country multiple times.
