Alleged Payroll Fraud: NANCES Calls For Transparency, Reinstatement Of Sacked Teachers In Osun

National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education (NANCES) Osun State, under the leadership of Comrade Ayanwole Kehinde Ayantayo, the Kindness Era, has waged into controversy over alleged payroll fraud.

A forensic audit firm, Sally Tibbot Consulting Limited, claims the state government is losing N13.7 billion annually to ghost workers and fraudulent payroll practices. The firm’s CEO, Sa’adat Bakrin-Ottun, revealed that the audit identified 8,452 ghost workers and pensioners.

The Osun State Government’s decision to sack 12,000 teachers is likely linked to the ongoing payroll fraud investigation, which affects the sacked primary teachers who graduated from different colleges of education.

In response to this, the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) expressed their deepest concerns about the potential impact on the quality of education in Osun State.

The removal of such a significant number of teachers has raised questions about the capacity of the remaining workforce to handle the educational needs of students effectively.

Parents and educators alike are worried that the disruption could lead to larger class sizes and decreased attention to individual student needs, which could ultimately affect student performance and outcomes.

Furthermore, the controversy has sparked a broader debate about the integrity of public sector employment processes and the need for robust systems to prevent such issues in the future. Calls for improved oversight and accountability mechanisms have been echoed by civil society organizations and educational bodies, who emphasize the importance of maintaining trust in public institutions.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration initiated a staff audit to address concerns about payroll irregularities, which uncovered widespread fraud, including ghost workers.

The government denies allegations of fraud, attributing issues to the former administration’s mismanagement. But we all understand that there’s no smoke without fire; over three years now, our NCE graduates have been sacked without replacement.

The state government has attributed the claims to political motivation and accused the consulting firm of inflating figures to increase its earnings.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration insists that only 1,316 workers remain unverified and that several individuals flagged by the firm are legitimate.

The National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education (NANCES) Osun State now calls on the state government for transparency and to reinstate our sacked primary teachers for effective education in the state.

Signed.
