Adamawa Govt Breaks Silence On Distribution Of Expired Food To Flood Victims

The Adamawa State Government has denied speculations circulating on social media that the foodstuffs distributed to the flood victims last Saturday at Mustapha College in Yola South Local Government Area had expired.

Speaking exclusively to PUNCH Online on Sunday, the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Celine Laori, described the social media publication as not only malicious but politically motivated, as she accused the opposition groups in the state of maligning the image of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration.

She said that despite the inclusiveness of the present administration in terms of appointments and project distribution across the 21 local governments, some aggrieved politicians who democratically lost elections are still expressing their bitterness in an unpatriotic manner.

Laori pointed out that since the return of democracy in 1999, no government in Adamawa State has done half of what Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has achieved within five years of his administration.

“The records are practical for both the opposition and others to see, but some people are still weeping political sentiments against a performing governor like Fintiri, ” she said.

Laori said that as a medical doctor, it is alarming and shocking that she can approve the distribution of expired food items to members of the public.

“This is a government that has a special financial package for the victims of the flood in Yola South local government to alleviate their suffering, yet some people think their campaign of calumny can succeed, the people of Adamawa State are wise beyond this type of cheap blackmail, “she stated.

Last Saturday, the deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, distributed different foodstuffs to 4000 households affected by the devastating flood in Yola-South LG last month.

The deputy governor said that the government gesture is to ensure that the victims recover fast and settle down to their normal business activities and farming.

She assured the victims that the administration of Fintiri will continue with its humanitarian services to the people of the state and called for their support for the government to enable it to do more for the people.
