Abuja To Host First African Defence Chiefs Summit Monday

The first African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit will open in Abuja on Monday, with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms Amina Mohammed, delivering the keynote address.

The three-day summit, to be declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will bring together defence chiefs and security experts from across the continent to deliberate on security and stability in Africa.

The host Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, is expected to give the welcome address, to be followed by statements from the Chairperson of the African Union, Mr Mohamoud Ali Youssoufà, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray.

A major highlight of the opening day will be the first plenary session featuring renowned Kenyan lawyer and activist, Prof. PLO Lumumba, as the main speaker. The session will focus on Border Management and Regional Security: Challenges and Perspectives.

The summit is aimed at strengthening continental cooperation, addressing common security challenges, and developing frameworks for enhanced border management and regional stability.
