The suspected killer of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, confessed yesterday to killing his Facebook lover for money rituals.
Abdulrahman Bello admitted to carrying out the heinous act alone. He and his accomplices appeared in court to face murder charges.
The suspect stated that he murdered Lawal because he needed human hands for money rituals. He expressed regret, saying that if he had known how to obtain the necessary ingredients through other means, he would not have killed his girlfriend.
Additionally, Inspector Ayodele Azeez from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the state Police Command testified at the hearing.
He recounted that on February 14, 2025, a case of murder and sexual assault was transferred from C Division Oja-Oba to the State CID.
Abdulrahman was found with various exhibits, including an axe, a cutlass, charms, the victim’s right and left hands, a consultation book, phones, and other items.
Inspector Azeez detailed the process of obtaining Abdulrahman’s statement with the assistance of a lawyer. He mentioned that the suspect’s call log revealed connections to the other defendants before and during the crime.
All defendants were eventually arrested, and their relationships were uncovered during the investigation. The police witness confirmed the recovery of items from Abdulrahman’s house and the scene of the crime.
Despite objections from the defence counsel, the court admitted the Compact disc containing the suspect’s statement as evidence. Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi ordered that the recording be played in the courtroom.
The investigation revealed the relationship between the defendants and their involvement in the crime. The defendants were known to each other, with some being teachers and students. Although no incriminating evidence was found in their houses, they were taken into custody for further questioning.
