At least eight people lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a loaded trailer and a Sharon Volkswagen vehicle along the Bende-Ohafia Road in Abia State.
The Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by the Sector Commander, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, in Umuahia.
According to the statement, the accident occurred when a trailer carrying chippings collided with a Sharon Volkswagen vehicle carrying ten passengers.
The impact caused the trailer to overturn, crushing the smaller vehicle.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed a fatal crash on Sunday along the Mmuri River axis in the Ohafia Local Government Area.
According to the report, eight people, including a woman standing by the roadside, lost their lives in the crash, while three others sustained injuries.
“The injured victims were rushed to the hospital, and the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue,” an FRSC official stated.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by dangerous driving and excessive speeding.
