As the National Assembly begins deliberations in the 2025 budget presented by President Tinubu on Wednesday, December 18, a member of the House of Representatives, Bello El-Rufai, has called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies to stop buying new vehicles and cutleries every year.
Speaking on the floor of the house on Thursday, December 19, El-Rufai noted that vehicles and utensils were bought last year and they are in budget again, hence they should scrapped.
He said, “the current issue in every budget, we budget for vehicles, utensils every year, so what I would like us to do Sir is to block loop holes is to look at all these Ministries bringing their budgets.
“They bought vehicles last year, they should just relax now. Vehicles do not expire. These are the little things that unless we start looking at them, the loop holes we talk about will not come out. The Oransaye report should be implemented.
“Since I was a little boy, budgets every year comes with new computers, new furniture… these things do not expire Sir. We should cut them out totally.
“We can’t have a tax reform bill that could shape the physical shape of this country while as leaders we are not cutting anything. Nigerians are tired of every agency buying fork and knife every year”
