Following the tragic incident at a funfair in Ibadan that left several attendees injured, Agidigbo FM has denied organising the event.
The management of the radio station issued a statement on Wednesday, clarifying its role and urging the public to verify information before spreading false claims.
According to the statement, Agidigbo FM was not involved in the planning or execution of the funfair.
It wrote, “We deeply sympathize with the victims and their families during this difficult time. However, we must categorically state that Agidigbo FM was not the organizer of the event. Linking us to it is both false and damaging.”
The tragedy, which occurred today, involved a mishap at the event venue, leading to injuries among attendees. Eyewitness accounts had initially linked Agidigbo FM to the event, prompting the station to set the record straight.
The station further warned against the dangers of misinformation. “We urge the public to rely on verified sources for information. Misinformation, especially during such sensitive times, can exacerbate an already dire situation,” the statement added.
Agidigbo FM also called on relevant authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure accountability. “We encourage a swift and transparent investigation to uncover the lapses that led to this unfortunate incident. Lessons must be learned to prevent a recurrence,” the station emphasized.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary findings suggesting lapses in safety measures at the funfair.
As the community mourns and seeks answers, the radio station has pledged its support for any efforts aimed at ensuring safety at future public events.
