FAKE NEWS ALERT: Trump Didn’t Say He’d Restore Electoral Integrity In Nigeria

Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States, didn’t say he would restore electoral integrity in Nigeria.

On Sunday, in a post on X, former President Goodluck Jonathan congratulated Trump on his election victory.

“Dear President Trump. I extend my warmest felicitations to you on your election as the 47th President of the United States. Your impressive victory is a testament to the American people’s faith in your leadership and vision for the future,” Jonathan wrote.

“I am optimistic that your Presidency will not only advance the American dream but also promote the cause for global peace, stability and progress.

“Please accept my heartfelt congratulations, once again.”

In response to the post, a user with the handle — Donald Trump Campaign Updates — appreciated Jonathan for the felicitation, saying electoral integrity will be restored in Nigeria and Africa.

The post was made around 11:37am on Sunday.

“Thanks for your goodwill words together we will make America great again and restore electoral integrity in Nigeria and across the African continent,” the post reads.

Some social media users have assumed the X account belongs to Trump, with some Nigerians commending the US president-elect for pledging to improve the nation’s electoral system.

“God bless you, sir,” a user with the handle, Yoruba Obedient, replied to the post.

God bless you sir.

Another user with the name, Emmanuel Udoh, said: “Nigerians will be most delighted if the US under the watch of DT will restore the integrity of our electoral process and hold accountable elections riggers; especially the present crop of @inecnigeria that have made a mess of our electoral system.”

Checks by TheCable showed that the account, which has over 1,700 followers, largely reposts pro-Trump news and events.

The account is not Trump’s official X handle, and the post should not be interpreted as coming from the US president-elect.
