FLASH: ‘He Attempted Fleeing Nigeria’, Immigration Breaks Silence On Bobrisky’s Arrest

 

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.

Daily Trust had reported how the crossdresser was nabbed in Lagos on Monday morning.

In a statement, Public Relations Officer of Immigration, DCI Kenneth Udo, said Okuneye is a “person of interest”.

He added that Bobrisky was trying to flee the country at the time of his arrest.

“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service NIS intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country.”

“The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye Idris is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.

“He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the Country’s Borders,” he said.

Our correspondent had earlier visited Seme border and was told that Bobrisky presented his Nigerian passport to Immigration officials at the departure wing of the Command for clearance when he was stopped.

An Immigration officer who spoke off the record because he was not allowed to speak to the press told our correspondent that Bobrisky arrived the command on Monday morning, dressed in a lady’s attire.

The source said Bobrisky was immediately whisked to the office of the Comptroller of Immigration, Seme Area Command, Mr. Abdullahi Adamu, where be was questioned.

The source further stated that Bobrisky presented himself like any traveler.

It was learnt that the arrest and detention of the controversial crossdresser created a mild drama at the border post as security operatives stumbled over themselves to catch a glimpse of Bobrisky.

“Immigration officers on duty as at the time of his arrival immediately identified him as the controversial crossdresser. He presented his Passport for clearance like any traveler, but was prevented from continuing his journey into Benin Republic.”

“He is presently being detained in the office of the comptroller where he is being questioned,” the source said.

Our correspondent further learnt that the Comptroller said he was awaiting further directive on the next line of action.

It is not clear if Bobrisky would be handed over to officials of the Economic and Financial Crime (EFCC) or would pass the night at Seme.

“Bobrisky is a public figure and is being treated as such. He is being detained in the comptroller’s office. We don’t know what will happen at the end of the day. whether he would be handed over to EFCC or transferred to the Zonal office at Alagbon area of Ikoyi,” another source said.

Bobrisky had been sentenced to six months in jail after he was convicted of naira abuse earlier in the year.

However, social commentator Martin Ose, popularly knows as Very DarkMan, later released an audio where Bobrisky was purportedly heard saying he spent a greater part of his jail sentence outside Kirikiri Prison where he was sentenced too, but the controversial celebrity denied the allegation, saying the audio was doctored.
