GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from the Protugal national team.
The 41-year-old announced his retirement 23 years after making his debut for his country.
In a video Ronaldo posted on Instagram, the former Sporting Lisbon youngster regaled the pride and responsibility he enjoyed wearing the number seven shirt for Portugal.
“To the Portuguese people, the day has come for me to hand back the number seven shirt of our national team. I never felt it belonged to me alone, but for 23 years I had the privilege and responsibility of wearing it, defending it and carrying it with me into stadiums all around the world.”
However, he added the national team changed his life forever, and that the decision to pass the baton “to the future” was no easy decision.
“Today the time has come to pass it on to the future. It was not an easy decision, because some decisions are not made with the mind alone – they are also made with the heart.

The retirement comes over a month after a spat with the Portugal national team coach Jorge Jesus.
He was not used in a UEFA Nations League match, and left the Portugal camp in Denmark.
The Al Nassr striker and national team captain apologized for his conduct and was suspended for one month with a fine of just over €500.
Ronaldo had his international debut in a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan in August 2023. He played 234 times for Portugal, the last of which was a 1-0 win over Wales in September.
He scored 141 goals to become the country’s all-time record goalscorer, and won all three titles the country has in their history, including the UEFA Euro 2016, and two UEFA Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025.
