Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours if the United States accepts its demands, raising the prospect of relief for global energy supplies as President Donald Trump threatened further military action.
Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on Monday that Tehran could restore security to the vital shipping corridor and resume negotiations within a short period, but insisted that progress depended on Washington.
“The possibility of implementing this plan in two days is another indication of Iran’s good-faith approach,” Baqaei told reporters.
“We have stated that, if Iran’s demands are met, it would be possible to restore security to the Strait of Hormuz and resume the negotiating process within a short period.”
Iran has blockaded the strait since the war began in February, disrupting a route that normally carries one-fifth of global oil consumption and driving up energy prices.
The latest offer follows diplomatic efforts to prevent renewed fighting, with messages being exchanged between Tehran and Washington through mediators.

Baqaei also warned against renewed attacks following Trump’s remarks on Saturday that he still had to “take care” of additional targets, including Pickaxe mountain, a suspected nuclear site in central Iran. Tehran denies that it is a nuclear facility.
“Any act of aggression against Iran, any military attack against Iran, by whatever means, will be met with a powerful, immediate and comprehensive response from us,” Baqaei said.
