The Federal Government has approved an increase in the budget for feeding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members during their orientation course, as part of efforts to improve their welfare.
In a statement signed by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this while interacting with 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members at the Cross River State NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra.
Nafiu said the Budget Office was aware of the upward review, adding that the increase was expected to take effect next year.
He urged the corps members to be prudent in their spending, avoid ostentatious lifestyles and cultivate the habit of saving.
The NYSC director general also commended the resilience and never-die spirit of Nigerian youths in their commitment to national service.Nigeria oil sector
On their safety, Nafiu cautioned the corps members against exposing themselves to danger while travelling, advising them to suspend their journeys if it was approaching 6pm and continue the following day.

He further advised them to seek safety in designated security establishments when necessary.
“Go to military barracks, police barracks, DSS establishments, and call the NYSC line,” he said.
Nafiu also said efforts would be intensified to engage stakeholders towards providing and overhauling facilities at the Obubra Orientation Camp.
He urged the corps members to acquire additional skills that would complement their academic qualifications and prove useful beyond the service year.
In his words, “Learn something that will be useful to you, learn cosmetology, learn how to tie gele and others”.
Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described the director general’s visit as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.
Presenting the camp situation report, Oyenuga disclosed that 1,064 corps members had been registered at the camp, adding that they had all adapted to the regimented camp environment.
