An 81-year-old man, Ademola, has dragged his wife, Adesewa, before Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that their 54-year-old marriage be dissolved on the account of irresponsibility, infidelity and violence by the latter.
Ademola stated that he started regretting his union with Adesewa 16 years ago after he caught her in an adulterous act.
Ademola also said that Adesewa was in the habit of sleeping outside their home.
The plaintiff explained that there were instances when the defendant deserted home for three days without any cogent reason.
Ademola further said that Adesewa was troublesome and refused that he had rest of mind.
Ademola stated that Adesewa always turned every argument into a fight, adding that she fought him almost on a daily basis.

Ademola further told the court that his wife is violent.
He mentioned an incident when she grabbed his neck during a fight and attempted to strangle him after he caught her with another man.
The plaintiff mentioned that he and the defendant had become a common face at the police stations.
Ademola said he could no longer tolerate his wife’s atrocities and therefore prayed for the dissolution of their union.
Adesewa denied all the allegations brought against her.
Ademola, in his testimony, said, “My wife and I started living together in 1972.
“We did not hold any ceremony; she was brought and handed over to me.
“I started regretting being in matrimony with my wife 16 years ago after I caught her in an adulterous act.
“My wife suddenly became unfaithful and unreliable in our marriage.
“She took laws into her hands and started misbehaving.
“My wife started spending days outside home and would return without giving any tangible excuse.
“There were times she left home for three days without leaving a clue about her whereabouts.
“She also became troublesome and unruly, and always sought every opportunity to fight me.
“We argue and fight over almost everything.
“I go about almost stark naked these days because my wife has torn most of my clothes to shreds.
“My lord, my wife is violent and my life is no longer safe with her.
“She intends to take my life.
“She once grabbed my neck and almost strangled me after I caught her with another man.
“Our children and every other person around us are aware of her promiscuous lifestyle.
“I reported her at the police station when she attempted to strangle me.
“My wife and I have become a common face at the police station due to her shameful behaviour.
“My lord, my wife has made my life miserable. I am tired of our relationship and have decided to disengage from it.
“I pray this court to rule that we go our separate ways.
“I further request an order restraining her from threatening and encroaching on my privacy.”
The court president, Mrs O.E. Owoseni, adjourned the case for defence.
