With political activities beginning to roll in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, all eyes are now on the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency and the type of leadership the people want for the next four years.
The loyalists of Hon. Timehin Adelegbe support the call for a third term on the grounds of development, experience, and continuity of experience that he has brought to the constituency.
Adelegbe is on his second term representing Owo/Ose at the House of Representatives. His supporters maintain that with the wealth of knowledge he has gathered over time, and his long years of interacting with federal establishments as well as the legislative arm of government, he is primed for more consideration for the people of Owo and Ose.
His people’s representation has seen numerous projects and interventions including Hall of Fame project at the Olowo’s Palace, Owo, medical equipment for the Okeluse Community Health Centre, town halls in communities such as Ifon, Idogun, Okeluse, and Afo, and skill acquisition centres at Adeyeri Grammar School, Iyere and Ireakari Grammar School, Idoani.
There have been educational interventions such as classroom blocks at Okeluse Anglican Grammar School and other community-based projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the inhabitants.
Roads is another equally important area of interest to the members of Owo/Ose constituency. The Owo/Ose constituency is made up of many rural villages whose economy is largely driven by the need for good roads to ferry their farm produce.

The intervention from the lawmaker on the Ipele-Ifon Road was also through a House motion which considered the infrastructure and security issues in Ose in December 2020.
Electricity has also received attention in some of the interventions presented from the constituency; many of which have reported repairs of transformers and rural electrification programmes in parts of Ose. These interventions are critical for rural areas where electricity can be used to power businesses, schools, and medical centres.
This is another long-term area. With a huge number of farmers in Owo/Ose, by consistently supporting agricultural production, there is the potential to make a positive impact on household income and the economy of the community.
The reports on Adelegbe’s representation have consistently referenced programmes involving farmers distributing improved cocoa seedlings.
The importance of skills/ avenues of economic empowerment for the youths cannot be overemphasized. Skills acquisition centres and empowerment programmes creates the platform for the residents to access skills acquisition and build their capacity to become independent.
The push for a third term then is not about keeping an individual in office. It is, for the supporters of Adelegbe, about having a representative who already is familiar with the constituency, who has been in the National Assembly and can pursue ongoing projects and programmes.”
Eight years in the National Assembly should also be valuable as legislative experience that a new member would take time to acquire. An appreciation of the procedures of parliament, committee work, the process of Federal budgeting, and the operation of ministries and government departments is a potential useful tool in advancing constituency interests.
Adelegbe has also sponsored bills concerning national development and other institutions that could serve as the benefit of his constituency. His adherents are of the view that one more tenure will afford him more time to actualise such bills, as well as to secure more federal appointments to Owo and Ose, Others include outstanding projects. They may not have been completed within a political cycle.
Some initiatives need to be planned, budgeted for, approved and implemented and monitored before benefits can be gained. Continuity can enable a knowledgeable representative to carry those projects on after their first stages and to seek further action when needed.
For Owo and Ose, the barometer should be real development. We need the roads, the electricity, the hospitals, the good schools, the good agriculture, the youth empowerment, the skills, the federal presence.
Hence, the calls for the third term of Adelegbe is gaining traction among his supporters. “Four more years to Adelegbe will be four more years to consolidate what has been achieved, embark on new projects and take more of the federal government to the communities in the constituency”.
Furthermore, the people of Owo and Ose should check the antecedents of all candidates before choosing. They can always check the projects the candidates have carried out and can also relate to them and make known their interest in legislatures, their impact on the community, future plans and their capacity to serve their constituencies.
To Adelegbe’s backers, the decision boils down to expansion and deepenening of impact. They insist the experience and other interventions attracted during the incumbent’s two-term tenure would have been potentiated by a third tenure, and could have led to more development in the two council areas.
Consequently, the 2027 election will once again give the electorate of Owo/Ose Federal Constituency a golden opportunity to decide what sort of leadership they want for their people.
Whether the focus is kept on power continuity or change, the real issue must be the people.
To those advocating for Adelegbe’s third term, the advice is to consolidate on the foundation, finish what he has started, bring more federal projects, and take advantage of the experience gained in the legislature to serve Owo and Ose better.
