Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has urged residents to continue supporting his administration, attributing the development projects being carried out in the state to financial support from President Bola Tinubu.
Okpebholo made the remarks on Friday during a visit to traders at the Uwelu Spare Parts Market, where he assessed the challenges affecting their businesses and discussed ways to improve commercial activities.
Describing Nigeria as a vehicle that needs a capable driver, the governor said, “Nigeria is big, and the country is like a vehicle that needs a good and qualified driver, and President Tinubu is the right driver to take the nation to the right destination.”
He also said the president’s financial support had made it possible for his administration to carry out development projects in Edo, stating, “All the good things that are happening in Edo State are possible because of the money President Tinubu is giving to us in the state.”
The governor promised to give traders at the market a ₦100 million grant to support their businesses from now until December 2026. He urged them to form a cooperative society, if they did not already have one, to enable them to access the funds.
Okpebholo also pledged to reconstruct the Uwasota-Uwelu Road, which traders had identified as a major challenge affecting businesses in the area.

“I will come back after giving you people ₦100 million to do business to check if contractors have started work on the Uwasota-Uwelu and also the secondary school which you need us to intervene. I will come back for the flag-off of the road and secondary school,” he said.
The governor further said his administration had been able to meet its salary obligations to teachers, civil servants and other public workers because of the president’s support. He added that the state government had also paid workers a 13th-month salary.
