FLASH: APC Places Travel Ban On Hamzat, James Faleke, Others

GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has placed a travel ban on all its candidates until after the 2027 general election.

The State Chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the ban on Friday during the inauguration of the Tinubu-Hamzat Campaign Council at the party secretariat in Ikeja.

According to The Nation, Ojelabi said the party is leaving no stone unturned and will not underrate any opposition party ahead of the election.

β€œNo candidate is allowed to travel outside the country until after the general election,” he said.

β€œLet our campaign be devoid of hatred, thuggery and violence.”

Ojelabi stated that the ruling party would adopt a decentralised grassroots strategy that would deploy APC leaders and other members to senatorial districts, LGAs, wards and polling units.

He said the responsibility placed on party members required clear lines of command, reporting and accountability throughout the campaign period.

According to him, the strategy would be guided by the principle that all politics is local.

β€œOur emphasis this time will be more on β€˜operation man your polling booth’. We are aware we have a total of 13,565 polling booths,” he said.

β€œOur people need to get involved locally and mobilise to get voters to deliver.

β€œOur target is to get five million votes out of the projected seven million votes in Lagos State, and we will rely on coordinated grassroots mobilisation to achieve the objective.”

β€˜Campaign With Facts, Not Emotions’

Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said the party’s engagement with voters must be driven by facts, data and measurable impact, rather than emotions.

He said the party has a strong performance record under President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which members must confidently present to the electorate.

β€œIt is not about emotion. It is about data. It is about records. We must be able to tell our people what we have done, what we are doing and what we intend to do,” he said.

β€œWhen you look at the reforms in taxation, infrastructure, agriculture, security and other areas, there are records that we can take to the people.

β€œOur campaign must be about these records and achievements, and we must confidently explain them to the electorate.”

The deputy governor said reforms under the Tinubu administration were aimed at strengthening the economy and creating opportunities for Nigerians.

He cited major infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to long-term economic growth.

β€œWe don’t want jesters as president, a man who does not know the difference between a loan and borrowing. It is not about emotion; it is about data, about record,” Hamzat said.

According to him, the scale of development across sectors demonstrated a deliberate effort to drive sustainable progress and improve the standard of living.

Hamzat further described Lagos as critical to Nigeria’s economic development, noting its significant contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said the state’s strategic importance requires continuity in governance and charged members to promote the achievements of the APC-led administration, particularly in infrastructure and transportation.

The deputy governor also urged APC members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and engage their communities, friends, neighbours and religious groups to participate actively in the electoral process.
