Nollywood actors such as Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola and Bimbo Oshin have rallied support for Taiwo Hassan, their colleague popularly known as ‘Ogogo’, amid his battle with stage four cancer.
The actors separately appealed on social media for medical assistance for Ogogo, urging Nigerians to help the family find specialists, hospitals and treatment options.
Adebayo said the family is not seeking financial assistance but recommendations for reputable hospitals and advanced treatment centres that can review the ailing actor’s medical records and offer medical alternatives.
“Please let’s rally around our beloved Sir Taiwo Hassan, who is currently facing a serious health challenge battling cancer,” he wrote.
Ademola, in his appeal, said Ogogo’s situation is well beyond gambling with choices, and the family only needs recommendations from anyone “who is sure”.
“With sadness, trembling hands and HOPE I repost this! Uncle Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, as daughter seeks help from medical professionals on treatment opportunities,” he wrote.
“Please and please, we need who is sure! We can’t gamble at this stage! We need your help! It’s not about money but means to get him treated!”
Oshin also appealed to anyone with connections in the oncology field or access to medical facilities that can assist the actor, asking them to reach out to Ogogo’s family.
“Our Dearest Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is currently battling stage 4 cancer, and his family is urgently looking for the right medical help and treatment options,” she wrote.
She reiterated that the family was not asking for money but needed recommendations for medical professionals in Nigeria or abroad.
The actors’ appeals come after Ogogo’s daughters revealed the actor’s condition.
Kira, one of the daughters, said the family discovered that her father had cancer about three weeks ago, adding that the condition had affected his abdomen.
She said some medical institutions had told the family that they could no longer administer chemotherapy to the actor and appealed for recommendations for alternative treatment options.
She also acknowledged the support of Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun West, who she said had been helping the family with medical bills.
Lima, another daughter, also said Adeola had promised to continue supporting the family financially.
“Nobody is here to ask for money. He did not worry. My big uncle has helped; he has been of great help,” Lima said.
She also said Ogogo was not fit to be flown abroad for treatment, in response to a comment by socialite Yhemo Lee.
