Tinubu Approves Recruitment Of 3,252 PTA Teachers In Unity Colleges

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers serving in Federal Unity Colleges across the country, in a move aimed at addressing the persistent shortage of teachers and strengthening the quality of education in the nation’s federal secondary schools.

Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, who announced the development on Thursday, described the approval as a landmark intervention that reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to revitalising the education sector and investing in Nigeria’s future through improved teaching and learning.

According to the Minister, priority will be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years without being absorbed into the mainstream public service.

“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country,” Alausa said.

“The President has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years.

“This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service,” he stated.

The Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Ikharo Attah, said in a statement issued in Abuja that the approval followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which screened PTA teachers across the Federal Unity Colleges.

The exercise verified 3,252 eligible teachers in the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors, paving the way for their regularisation after the completion of all statutory requirements.

He described the development as a major milestone under the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the recruitment would improve the teacher-to-student ratio in Federal Unity Colleges while recognising the dedication and sacrifices of PTA teachers who had sustained academic activities despite years of uncertainty.

The Minister said integrating the experienced teachers into the federal public service would preserve institutional knowledge, strengthen classroom instruction and improve learning outcomes across the colleges.

He added that the initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader reforms to enhance teacher quality and reposition Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence.

Alausa assured that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue working with relevant government agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes required for the issuance of the final recruitment approval in line with extant public service regulations.

Expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for the approval, the Minister said the decision demonstrated the administration’s resolve to place education at the centre of national development.

He stressed that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, adding that investing in teachers remains critical to building a stronger and more competitive education system.

The Minister also assured all verified PTA teachers that the regularisation process would be concluded with transparency, fairness and strict adherence to due process.

“This administration is determined to ensure that every child in our Federal Unity Colleges is taught by qualified, motivated and professionally supported teachers. We will continue to pursue reforms that improve learning outcomes and restore confidence in public education for the benefit of every Nigerian child,” he said.
