The convoy of Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), was attacked by suspected hoodlums in Ede South Local Government Area on Sunday evening.
Dr Oyebamiji had visited Alajue Ward 2 to mobilise and educate voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 7 p.m. after she concluded the engagement alongside Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti.
According to sources, about 15 armed hoodlums attacked the convoy as it was leaving the venue.
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, was said to have sustained severe head injuries during the attack.
However, Dr Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti escaped unhurt.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Salami, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
Salami said the incident occurred around Alajue and Sekona Garage as Dr Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti were returning from a political programme in Alajue, Ede.
He alleged that the attackers were loyalists of the Accord Party.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has reportedly returned to Nollywood following his defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.
This comes after photos of him on a movie set with fellow actor Ibrahim Chatta surfaced on social media.
The images showed the former Nollywood movie star and Chatta standing together on what appeared to be a film set while engaged in conversation during a production. READ MORE
