Nigerian professional wrestler, Oba Femi, defeated Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match at WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, with the former world champion describing the Lagos-born star as “the future” after the contest.
The match headlined SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, where Oba Femi claimed his second major victory over Lesnar this year after also defeating him at WrestleMania in April.
The victory also handed Lesnar his first defeat inside Hell in a Cell.
Speaking after the match, Lesnar publicly endorsed Oba Femi as one of WWE’s leading stars for the future while acknowledging himself as part of the sport’s past.
The public show of respect came after an intense contest that saw the Nigerian continue his rapid rise in WWE.
Reacting to Lesnar’s comments, Oba Femi admitted he was surprised by the gesture but said the respect between both wrestlers had always been mutual.
“The hug and public endorsement was definitely a shock, and I didn’t see that coming,” Oba Femi said.
“I know that deep down, Brock has always respected me and he knows that deep down, I respect him as well.”
In a heartfelt message during the SummerSlam post-show, Oba Femi paid tribute to the former WWE champion.
“We all know Brock is a beast; he presents as a beast; he’s a monster; he’s been dominant for 25 years. But he is still very much human; he’s a human being, he’s a man, he’s a father, he’s an athlete, he has feelings as well.
“So to Brock, I wish you all the best, man. I really do.
“Go hunting, do what you do, go be a father, go be a human being, you’ve earned this. In the ring, in the cage, everything you’ve done, you’re the best, you’re one of the greatest minds of professional wrestling.
“And I hope when all this is said and done, everybody knows that.”
Oba Femi has enjoyed a breakthrough year in WWE, establishing himself as one of the promotion’s fastest-rising talents.
In addition to his WrestleMania victory over Lesnar, he won the King of the Ring tournament in June before adding another milestone with his SummerSlam triumph.
