Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has ruled out a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2027 governorship election, naming the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Jerry Adams, a Christian, as his running mate in what he described as a reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to inclusion, equity and justice.
Announcing the nomination in a personally signed statement on Tuesday, Sani said the choice of Adams reflects the values that have shaped his administration since assuming office on May 29, 2023, insisting that every resident of Kaduna deserves a genuine sense of belonging irrespective of ethnic or religious background.
The governor said the decision was not merely about selecting a deputy governorship candidate but about reinforcing the principles of fairness and inclusive governance.
“This decision is far greater than the selection of a deputy governorship candidate. It is a reaffirmation of the values that have guided our administration since I took the oath of office on 29 May 2023; the values of inclusion, justice, fairness, equity and the unwavering conviction that every citizen of Kaduna State deserves a genuine sense of belonging,” Sani said.
Highlighting Kaduna’s diversity, the governor urged residents to see the state’s ethnic and religious differences as a source of strength rather than division.
“Our history has taught us difficult lessons about the heavy cost of division, mistrust and exclusion. Yet it has also shown us that when we choose dialogue over discord, inclusion over alienation and justice over prejudice, our people achieve extraordinary things together,” he added.
Sani said his administration has deliberately pursued balanced development across the state’s 23 local government areas through investments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, rural development and social protection.
He also noted that the government has sustained collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community organisations, women and youth groups to promote peaceful coexistence and restore public confidence in governance.
According to him, the improved security situation in many parts of the state has enabled farmers to return to their farms, encouraged business expansion and attracted new investments.
Explaining his choice of running mate, the governor described Adams as an accomplished public servant and tax administrator who transformed KADIRS into one of Nigeria’s most efficient revenue agencies through innovation, transparency and professionalism.
Sani said the agency’s improved internally generated revenue has strengthened Kaduna’s financial capacity and enabled greater investment in critical sectors of the economy.
He further described Adams as “a man of integrity, humility and quiet strength,” whose commitment to peace, reconciliation and inclusive governance makes him well-suited for the office.
“His emergence reflects our continuing determination to build a Kaduna where merit, competence and character remain the true qualifications for leadership,” the governor said.
Calling for support ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Sani urged Kaduna residents to rise above ethnic, religious and geographical considerations and embrace a shared vision for the state’s future.
“As we look towards 2027, I invite every son and daughter of Kaduna State to see this moment not through the narrow prism of religion, ethnicity or geography, but through the broader vision of the Kaduna we are building together; a Kaduna where every child can dream without fear, every community can flourish, every faith is respected and every citizen has an equal stake in our common future,” he said.
The governor expressed confidence that his administration would consolidate on its achievements while laying a stronger foundation for a more peaceful, secure and prosperous Kaduna State.
