JUST IN: Nigeria’s Flamingos Qualify For U-17 Women’s W/Cup After Victory Over Benin Republic

The Flamingos of Nigeria have clinched a ticket to the 2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco following a defeat of neighbours Benin Republic in the last round of qualification for the championship.

Nigeria advanced to the tournament after winning the second leg of the tie 3-5 on Saturday at the Stade de Kégué in Lome, Togo.

The Flamingos got a step closer to Morocco after a 3-2 victory over the Young Amazons in Ikenne, Ogun State, in the first leg of the game.

The visitors took the lead through Mark Akpan after just six minutes, while Romaine Gandonou equalised for Benin five minutes.

Nigeria went into the break with a two-goal lead courtesy of two more strikes from Esther Enne Stephen, and Queen Joseph.

Joseph further increased the advantage from the penalty spot nine minutes after the break.

Benin rallied with two goals from Hermionne Lokossou, and Gandonou to make the scoreline 4-3.

Joseph however scored her third of the game 14 minutes from time to ensure the Flamingos return home with an away win.

With a 3-5 win on Saturday, Nigeria picked one of the tickets for the competition billed for later this year on an 8-5 aggregate.

Morocco will host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in October.
