Controversial disc jockey and TikTok personality, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, was on Friday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, over allegations of threatening the life of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
DJ Chicken was arraigned before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
The case stemmed from a video the content creator posted on his social media platforms while commenting on the 2027 presidential election.
In the viral video, DJ Chicken, speaking in Yoruba, said: “Tinubu, you can’t win the election. If you win, I will kill Seyi Tinubu. I won’t say more than that.”
The prosecution alleged that the video contained statements interpreted as a threat to kill the president’s son, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
Following public backlash, DJ Chicken posted another video retracting the remarks, describing them as a joke intended to attract attention.
He maintained that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu and said the comments were part of his content creation.
Despite the retraction, the Lagos State Government proceeded with criminal charges.
The first count alleges that the defendant posted a video containing a threat to kill Seyi Tinubu through his social media accounts, contrary to Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second count accuses him of transmitting a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
The third count alleges that his conduct was likely to cause a breach of the peace and was intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Magistrate Onamusi granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, DJ Chicken’s lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the bail, saying the content creator is expected to be released on Monday.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on Friday, Stephen said, “Update on DJ Chicken’s case. This morning he was arraigned to court—the Magistrate Court at Ogba. And well, we applied for his bail. Although it was very, very tough. The other party, they do not want him to be on bail because of who this case is against.
“But thankfully, the court applied Section 115 Sub 2 of the ACJL, and he was eventually granted bail. Well, he’s not out yet because we are not done with the bail condition, nor perfected his bail condition. But by Monday, we should be able to do that and he will be out.”
He expressed appreciation to supporters, saying a lot of people came to court and showed solidarity.
