FLASH: Eight Terrorists Killed As Troops Foil Deadly Attack On Katsina Commuters

Troops of the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with hybrid forces, have foiled a planned terrorist attack on commuters along the Kakumiโ€“Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing eight suspected terrorists.

The development was disclosed in a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the operation followed credible intelligence that armed terrorists loyal to a notorious kingpin identified as Idi Abasu Aiki were planning to attack motorists and other road users along the route.

Makama said the suspected terrorists were sighted advancing towards the target area on five motorcycles, prompting troops and the hybrid forces to swiftly mobilise and position an ambush along their likely route.

โ€œThe troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, during which eight of the assailants were neutralised,โ€ he stated.

The report added that troops subsequently carried out an exploitation of the area, recovering two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles allegedly used by the suspected terrorists during the operation.

Makama further reported that troops have sustained aggressive patrols and surveillance across the area to prevent any retaliatory attacks on nearby communities and commuters, as Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues efforts to restrict the movement of terrorist groups across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.

In a related development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has ordered security personnel to immediately engage and neutralise bandits and terrorists once deployed, warning that any operative who delays action while waiting for approval would be regarded as a terrorist.

Musa issued the directive on Wednesday in Sokoto State during the commissioning of 62 operational vehicles and other security equipment worth N27.1 billion, procured by the Sokoto State Government to boost security operations across the state.

Addressing the troops, the Defence Minister declared, โ€œOnce youโ€™re are deployed do not wait for any order from anybody to to shoot any bandit or any terrorist.

“I want to make that very loud and clear; anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat you like a bandit.โ€ READ MOREย
