Don’t Wait For Orders, Shoot Bandits On Sight; If You Refuse, We Will Treat You Like Bandit — Defence Minister Charges Troops

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has ordered security personnel to immediately engage and neutralise bandits and terrorists once deployed, warning that any operative who delays action while waiting for approval would be regarded as a terrorist.

Musa issued the directive on Wednesday in Sokoto State during the commissioning of 62 operational vehicles and other security equipment worth N27.1 billion, procured by the Sokoto State Government to boost security operations across the state.

Addressing the troops, the Defence Minister declared, “Once you’re are deployed do not wait for any order from anybody to to shoot any bandit or any terrorist.

I want to make that very loud and clear; anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat you like a bandit.”

He also urged security personnel to ensure proper maintenance of the newly acquired equipment, noting the huge investment made by the state government.

“It is important for those that will handle this equipment, these equipment cost billions of naira that could have been used for other aspects but have been dedicated to this.

So I want to charge you that you must maintain this equipment very well. We will come after a year to see how these equipment are doing,” he said.

In a related development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the Nigerian Army on Wednesday graduated more than 3,000 newly trained recruits at the Nigerian Army Training Depot, Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State, in a move to strengthen its manpower and enhance ongoing counter-terrorism and other internal security operations across the country.

This came 12 days after the Army graduated more than 8,000 newly trained soldiers from the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, Osun State.

Speaking at the passing-out parade, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, charged the new soldiers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty and professionalism as they begin active military service.

According to a statement issued by the Army spokesperson, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the COAS described the graduation as a significant boost to the Nigerian Army’s manpower capacity, in line with the Federal Government’s intensified efforts to tackle the country’s security challenges and strengthen national defence.
