Gunmen have launched another coordinated murderous attack in three communities in Riyom and Barakin Local Government areas of Plateau State, killing six people and injuring many more.
The marauders on Saturday and Sunday launched separate attacks on Ta-Hoss, Kwi and Sabon Layi communities of Riyom and Barkin Ladi local governments respectively.
A statement signed by the publicity secretary, Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the gunmen operating from the Fulani Settlement in Bangai axis attacked farmers on their farmland at Rinyan Village in Ta-Hoss Community.
They shot dead one Mrs. Hudung Luka (aged 40) and critically injured another woman, Mrs. Ladi Istifanus.
Later that same night, the gunmen invaded Sabon Layi Community in Barkin Ladi Local Government and murdered another three persons, simply identified as Sunday, Benjamin James and Godwin Yakubu.
According to the BYM, the gunmen struck again in the early hours of Sunday, killing one Mr. Peter Bulus in Kwi Village, Riyom Local Government Area in attacks the group described as part of a long standing pattern of violence directed at innocent civilians, farmers and rural communities.
“This disturbing development calls for immediate, intelligence-driven security operations to identify, dismantle, and neutralize these camps before more innocent lives are lost. Security agencies must act proactively rather than waiting to respond after attacks have occurred,” it pleaded.
However, the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, could not be reached on the incident.
