How We Can Build Nigeria Of Our Dreams – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigeria can achieve the future its citizens desire by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders committed to good governance and national development.

Obi stated this in a statement on Sunday after speaking at the NextGen Mentorship & Leadership Initiative held at Madonna University, Okija Campus, on Saturday, where he interacted with students on the theme, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”

Sharing details of the engagement, Obi said the session provided an opportunity to hear directly from young Nigerians, many of whom expressed concerns about poor governance and corruption, which they believe have limited their opportunities and aspirations.

Despite the challenges raised, Obi said he was encouraged by the students’ determination to contribute to positive change and help shape the country’s future.

He stressed that the quality of leadership remains the biggest factor in a nation’s development, saying leaders must demonstrate character, competence, capacity and compassion while making sacrifices for the welfare of the people.

Obi also said Nigeria’s progress depends on leaders who prioritise the protection of lives, investment in education, job creation, and the strengthening of institutions.

He urged the students to remain focused on their education and prepare themselves for leadership roles while actively participating in the democratic process to ensure credible leaders emerge.

“I encouraged the students to take their education seriously, to prepare themselves for leadership, and to see themselves not merely as spectators but as agents of change. Through active participation in the democratic process, they have the power to enthrone leaders with integrity and the capacity to propel our nation forward.”

As part of his support for education, Obi presented a cheque for ₦15 million to Madonna University to support its educational programmes.

He described investment in education as one of the most effective ways to develop the human capital needed to drive national progress.

“Together, by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams that is POssible.”
