Mr. Ikechukwu Oliver Akpudo has been remanded in police custody for allegedly impersonating Eze Ndigbo of Kano to defraud one Maduka Madubuike of N147 million.
Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High court Kano ordered the remand of Akpudo in the police custody following his arraignment in court, on one count charge of obtaining money by false pretense.
Akpudo was accused of pretending to be the Eze Ndigbo (the king of Igbos) in Kano to obtain the sum of ₦147 million from one Maduka Madubuike who paid the amount into the suspect’s bank account number 2141093202 with Ecobank as payment for a property/House number 14 situated on New road Sabon Gari, Kano.
The police prosecution team led by Abubakar Ado told the court that the defendant had, between March and December 2024, provided the bank account bearing the name of Ikechukwu Peter Akpudo which the money was transferred into for the purchase of the said property, under false pretense contrary to section 1 (a) and (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences, punishable under the same act.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and denied obtaining the money under false pretense.
Documents attached to the charge include Statement of the nominal complainant to the police, statement of the defendant to the police, copy of the petition to the police, copy of payment and acknowledgement of receipt, statement of bank account, and picture of the property.
The defendant’s lawyer, Okechukwu Nwabueze, did not object to the charge when it was read out in court, last Thursday.
The trial judge adjourned the matter to 2 July 2026, for continuation of the case.
