25 Suspects Linked To Kidnapping, Murder Arrested In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects linked to kidnapping and murder, recovering firearms, stolen vehicles and illicit drugs in a series of operations conducted across the state and beyond.

Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu announced this to reporters yesterday during a press conference at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna, saying the arrests and recoveries were made in the last two weeks through intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration.

Among the major successes recorded during the period was the arrest of six suspected kidnappers and bandits in Sagamu, Ogun State, following intelligence reports on the movement of illegal firearms across state boundaries.

The suspects were identified as Bukar Bulama, Abubakar Mohammad, Mohammad Usman, Ibrahim

According to the police commissioner, operatives tracked the suspects to their hideout after a manhunt, leading to their arrest and the recovery of a cache of weapons.

Items recovered from the suspects included two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, a local pistol, 10 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and four cartridges.

Rabiu also said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Zaria arrested one Yahya Alhaji Yusuf for alleged involvement in kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery.

He said the suspect confessed during interrogation to participating in several criminal operations and admitted receiving N6 million as ransom from victims abducted along the Buruku axis.

In another operation, police arrested one Usama Tijjani, described as a serial fraudster who allegedly specialised in luring women to hotels, gaining their trust and dispossessing them of their valuables.

The commissioner said investigations showed that the suspect had deceived and robbed more than 200 women of their mobile phones, jewellery and other personal belongings.

He added that police recovered gold jewellery valued at over N30 million as well as 20 GSM handsets suspected to be proceeds of the suspectโ€™s criminal activities.

Rabiu further announced the arrest of 13 suspects in connection with the killing of two persons accused of witchcraft in Katuga Unguwar Ruwa community of Kagarko Local Government Area.

The police commissioner also said two suspected drug dealers were arrested in Zaria with 2,700 sachets of tramadol recovered from them.

He said operatives recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations carried out across different parts of the state.

According to him, three suspected members of a car-snatching syndicate were arrested while attempting to deliver a stolen Toyota Corolla to a prospective buyer in Kaduna.

Rabiu commended residents for supporting security agencies with credible intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remained critical to sustaining the gains recorded in the fight against crime.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

โ€œThese achievements underscore the Commandโ€™s determination to deny criminals the freedom to operate within Kaduna State. We shall continue to intensify intelligence gathering, strengthen community engagement and sustain targeted operations against banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, vehicle theft and other forms of criminality,โ€ the commissioner added.
