E DON HAPPEN: Police Arrest Woman For Allegedly Hacking Husband With Cutlass In Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and prosecuted a woman identified as Olatunde Mary over allegations of spousal battery and grievous bodily harm after she allegedly attacked her husband with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure, the state capital.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported on June 3, 2026, at the Gender-Based Offences Unit (GBV Unit) at the Police Command Headquarters in Akure.

The police spokesperson said the violent episode occurred on June 2, at about 2:30 p.m., at Ilado II, Igbatoro Road area of Akure, during a heated altercation between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius.

Jimoh stated that preliminary investigation reportedly revealed that during the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked her husband and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, leaving him with severe injuries.

According to the police, the victim was immediately rushed for medical attention, where doctors treated and documented the extent of the wound, according to the police.

The Police added that detectives from the GBV Unit swiftly launched an investigation, during which statements were obtained from both parties involved, alongside other supporting evidence.

Following the conclusion of investigations and the establishment of a prima facie case, police authorities said the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned in court.

โ€œThe Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals and remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable regardless of gender, status or relationship with the victim,โ€ Jimoh stated

The police also urged residents of the state to promptly report cases of domestic abuse and other gender-based offences to the nearest police station or relevant units for swift intervention.

Reassuring the public, the Commissioner of Police in the State said the Command remains committed to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that all cases are thoroughly investigated and diligently prosecuted.
