Minister of Defense, General Christopher Musa, rtd, has said that Nigeria’s security forces are not enemies of the country.
Speaking as a guest at the June 12, 2026 edition of ‘The Platform’ aired on Channels Television on Friday, Musa said all Nigerians, including the security forces, are all victims.
He appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the government, noting that the fight against insecurity succeeds when citizens work together with institutions.
“The security forces are not the enemies of the state. In fact, what I always say is that we are all victims.
“As a commander, I had the privilege of being the commander in the theater Operation Hadin Kai for 19 months, and the worst thing that could ever happen to you is having to meet the families of those who have passed on, who were killed, to explain to them what happened to their children, to their wards, or to see those ones that have been amputated because the vehicles they were riding went through Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, which has taken their limbs.
“So, I want to appeal to Nigerians that as long as these individuals are sacrificing themselves, we have a country to protect. We must honour them, we must support them, we must give them everything that will keep them going, and together with the support of citizens, so much can be achieved, and I can assure you that,” he said.
In a related development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern warning to bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terrorism across Nigeria, urging them to surrender immediately or face decisive action from security forces.
In his Democracy Day address to Nigerians on Friday, President Tinubu declared that while the Federal Government remains committed to offering repentant fighters a path to reintegration, the opportunity would not remain available indefinitely.
“To bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror: Surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” the President said.
The President said his administration had intensified efforts to combat insecurity through increased recruitment into the police and military, enhanced intelligence gathering, and sustained military operations against terrorist groups. READ MORE
